Lexmark X2600 Troubleshooting

Whether you're printing off a work spreadsheet or photos to share with the family, the last thing you need is a stalled printer or streaked prints. When your Lexmark X2600 stops responding correctly, the problem may be caused by any number of issues, ranging from paper jams to a corrupt software installation. Before getting your printer working again, you need to troubleshoot the machine's physical connections and the settings on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Tap the power button to turn off the Lexmark printer. The power button is located on the control panel at the right side of the printer and is marked by a circle with a vertical line through it. Unplug the USB cable and the black power cable connected to the ports on the back side of the printer.

    • 2

Reconnect the USB cable and ensure it is making a full connection. Follow the cable to the USB port on your computer. Unplug and reconnect the cable to make sure it's connected properly. Reconnect the power cable.

    • 3

Grip the white plastic lid positioned underneath the scanning bed at the front of the printer. Lift up the lid until it locks into position so the ink cartridges are visible inside the machine. Pull up the plastic locks above the ink cartridges.

    • 4

Pull both ink cartridges out of the plastic cartridge carriage. Check the bottom of the cartridges to ensure the strip of tape has been removed. Pull off the tape if it is still present. Push the cartridges back into position and set the plastic locks back into position.

    • 5

Check inside the area near the print cartridges to see if a sheet of paper has become jammed inside the Lexmark. Grip the paper and pull it upward to fix the jam. Push down the white plastic lid.

    • 6

Open the Start menu on your computer and click the "Devices and Printers" link. Double-click the "Lexmark X2600" icon. Check to see if any print jobs are listed in the queue. Right-click the top print job and choose the "Resume" option.

    • 7

Close the window and return to the Start menu if the queue didn't have a print job that needed to be resumed. Click "Control Panel" and click the "Programs and Features" link. Click the "Lexmark" entry and select the "Uninstall" option at the top of the screen.

    • 8

Click "Next" and "Finish" to uninstall the Lexmark printing software. Insert the installation disc that was included with your X2600 into your computer's disk drive. Click "Next" at each prompt and "Finish" at the final prompt to reinstall the Lexmark software. Restart your computer's operating system.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the Lexmark still won't print or it won't power on at all, your problem may lie with the USB port or wall outlet. Try connecting the USB cable to a different USB port on your computer and attach the power cable to a different wall outlet.
