How to Make a Pinstripe in Illustrator

Drawing a pinstripe in Adobe Illustrator may seem like a challenge at first. Drawing a single thin line is not difficult, but putting another beside it and completely parallel does take some work, especially if the lines curve. You can make your own pinstripes in just a few minutes, then save it as a new art brush. Zoom in and use the rulers to get your pinstripes exactly the same distance apart, and add as many lines as you need before creating the brush.

Instructions

  1. Setting Up the Pinstripe Layer

    • 1

Open a new Illustrator document, or use the document you want to use for the pinstripes. Create a new layer by clicking on the "Create New Layer" icon in the Layers Panel.

    • 2

Click the "View" menu, and select "Show Rulers." Use Points in the ruler by clicking the "File" menu, selecting "Preferences," then "Units & Display Performance." Select "Points."

    • 3

Click "Layer 1" in the Layers Panel if you are going to make a white pinstripe. Select the "Rectangle Tool." Double-click the "Foreground Color" icon in the Toolbox, and select black from the Color Picker. Draw a large rectangle over the canvas. Select "Layer 2" in the Layers Panel. You can delete this rectangle after your pinstripes are in place.
