How to Change a Bobrick Kitchen Faucet Washer

Bobrick makes many styles of kitchen faucets that fulfill a variety of users' needs. If the handle on your Bobrick kitchen faucet has become increasingly hard to turn or it squeals, the problem may be a worn washer. The washer in a Bobrick kitchen faucet is a round rubber piece that sits over top of the valve stem and reduces the friction when it is turned. You can replace the washer to fix the problem.

Instructions

1. Locate the water shutoff valves under the kitchen sink and turn them completely clockwise to stop the water supply to the faucet. If there are no shutoffs under the sink, shut off the main water valve for the house. Turn on the faucet and let the residual water drain.

2. Pry off the beauty cap at the center of the handle being repaired using a standard screwdriver. If the faucet is a single-pull model, locate the set screw at the base of the handle and loosen it with the correct size Allen wrench from a set. Do not remove the screw all the way.

3. Remove the screw at the center of the handle in a two-handle faucet. Use a Phillips screwdriver and turn the screw counterclockwise. Pull off the handle from the stem. If the faucet is a single-handle model, pull the handle straight off the faucet body after loosening the set screw.

4. Pull off the collar on a single-handle model, if there is one, by hand. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to fish the washer out of the faucet cavity. Place the new washer in the same location where the old one was and reassemble the faucet. Restore the water supply to the faucet.
