How to Respond to an Employment Ad on Craigslist
Craigslist is a website used by many to advertise and find job openings. If a posted job is popular, it may result in hundreds of responses in a matter of days. To ensure your response is in the running of potential candidates for the position, keep it brief and to the point, demonstrating exactly how your set of skills coincides with the set of skills the employer is looking for.

Click on the blue link beside "Reply To:" at the top of any job posting to send your response through your default mail client. Alternatively, you can copy the email address and paste it into a blank email.

Type the title of the job advertisement in the subject line of your email.

Write a cover letter in the body of the email, tailored to the job for which you are applying. Keep it brief, but let the job poster know how your skills match the skills he is looking for. Begin with a brief introduction, followed by three or four short paragraphs stating your skills and experiences. If desired, bold the most important elements so that they stand out. End the cover letter with a statement on why you want the job and why you think you are a good fit.

End the email with "Thank you," followed by your full name on the next line.

Attach your resume to the email. Alternatively, you can include a link in the email to an online location where your resume is stored.

Read over your email several times, checking for improper grammar, misspelled words and awkward sentences.

Do not send your cover letter as an attachment. The job poster will receive many replies and will want to look through them as quickly and efficiently as possible. You can send your resume as an attachment because if the job poster likes your cover letter, he will not mind investing the extra time needed to open the attachment.
