Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda

  • Socks

  • Odor removal insoles

  • Fabric softener sheets

  • Pillowcase

Volleyball shoes are designed to help you play the sport better, but sweating feet can cause the shoes to smell. The stench inside the shoes can make them unpleasant to take off and the odor itself can be embarrassing. After you play a game of volleyball, eliminate the odors inside the shoes to keep them in good condition. You can remove the odors with items around your home instead of purchasing an expensive product.

Step 2

Pour baking soda into two old socks. Tie the socks and place them inside the volleyball shoes. Allow the socks to sit in the shoes overnight to let the baking soda absorb the odors.

Step 3

Sprinkle a fine layer of baking soda inside the volleyball shoes. Allow the baking soda to sit overnight, and then turn the shoes over and shake them to remove the baking soda.

Step 4

Remove the insoles from the volleyball shoes and replace them, if possible. If you cannot replace the insoles, purchase insoles designed to kill bacterial growth.

Step 5

Place a fabric softener sheet inside each shoe overnight. The dryer sheet will remove the odors and make the shoes smell fresh.

Step 6

Examine the care tag inside the volleyball shoe. Determine if the shoes are machine washable. Place the shoes inside an old pillowcase, and put them into the washing machine. Allow the shoes to air-dry outdoors in a bright location.

Tip

Sprinkle salt inside the shoes to help absorb excess moisture.

Spray deodorant on your feet before you put on socks to help cut back on the sweat.

Warning

Avoid washing the shoes in the washing machine if the care label does not indicate that it is safe.
