How to Make a Capo From Pencils

There are various accessories for the common guitar, from effects pedals to whammy bars. One other accessory for the guitar is a capo. This device functions like a clamp and is placed over one of the frets to change the pitch of the notes. If you don't have time to go out to a music store you can make a capo at home out of a pencil.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the body of the pencil vertically over the fret on the guitar where you intend to use the capo.

    • 2

Place one rubber band over the top of the pencil and bring it down to the top of the fret.

    • 3

Pull the end of the rubber band behind the guitar neck and place it over the bottom end of the pencil to secure it.

    • 4

Place the remaining rubber band over the top of the pencil as you did in step 2.

    • 5

Pull the rubber band behind the neck and place it over the bottom of the pencil. This second rubber band will ensure that the capo is secured as tightly as possible to the fretboard. You now have your capo.
