How to Make a Toothpaste Tube Emptying Machine

It is difficult to get all the toothpaste from the tube by squeezing alone.

Toothpaste tubes are notoriously difficult to empty. Most people squeeze from anywhere on the tube. When the paste stops coming out of the tube easily, people often throw the tube away and move on to the next one. This wastes several ounces of toothpaste a year. One way of getting more out of your toothpaste is to roll the tube from the bottom as you use it. But it is still possible to miss a lot of paste when you rely on your bare hands. To be even more efficient, you need a tube squeezing device. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take the cap off an empty deodorant container. A solid deodorant works best, as the cap needs to be wider than the bottom of the tube.

    • 2

Hold the end of the toothpaste tube against the top of the deodorant lid. Draw a line lengthwise across the top of the lid with a marker. The line should be slightly longer than the tube end.

    • 3

Cut along the marker line with a box cutter, or another sharp instrument. Make the cut just wide enough so you can fit the end of the tube through the slot. It should not be too wide or it won't squeeze as effectively.

    • 4

Insert the end of the tube through the slot. It does not matter which direction the lid faces; point it whichever direction is easiest for you. Slide the deodorant lid up the tube instead of squeezing the toothpaste when you use it. The toothpaste will be forced up from the bottom and the used portion of the tube will remain flat and empty.
