How to Give a Pomeranian a Haircut
Pomeranians are known for their fluffy fur. While many Pomeranian owners clip their dog's hair short, others prefer to keep their dog's hair fluffy. Pomeranians do need frequent grooming. However, when you allow your Pomeranian's hair to grow naturally, grooming your Pomeranian is much easier. When grooming a Pomeranian with a natural look, you only trim hair. It's much easier than shaving the dog or maintaining a lion cut.

1
Place a towel on a flat, sturdy surface. The towel prevents slipping and also catches any hair that falls.
-
2
Place the Pomeranian on top of the towel. Brush the dog's fur thoroughly with a wire brush. This eliminates any tangles. Brush the fur in the opposite direct that it grows. This shows you how long the hair is and also makes finding the longer, overgrown hairs easier.

Hold the top of the ear between your thumb and forefinger. Cut the excess fur growth with a pair of scissors. The excess fur growth is visible growing off the ears. Angle the scissors so they are parallel with the Pomeranian's eyes. Cut the fur at the top of the ears until a little less than 1/2-inch remains. Shape the remaining part of the ears so they look more rounded than pointy. Pull any hair in the ears out with your thumb and forefinger. Give the hair in the ears a firm tug. This prevents mites or other bugs from nesting in the ears.

4
Brush the fur forward on the Pomeranian's head. Look at the head as a circle. The face is the center of the circle and the hair encases it. Hold a section of fur between your forefinger and middle finger. Cut 1/2-inch off the fur. Start at one side and work your way to the other. Angle the scissors slightly to keep the edges of the fur smooth and round, not square or angled.
-
5
Brush the fur on the shoulders out so you can see any longer strands. Cut the longer strands first. Repeat the circular cutting with the shoulder fur. Start at one shoulder and work your way toward the other one. Keep your scissors angled so the edges of the fur are smooth and not boxy. Cut off 1/2-inch at a time.
-
6
Look at your Pomeranian from the side. Brush the chest fur out and cut it so the chest swells out like a semi-circle. Keep your scissors angled and only cut off a 1/2-inch at a time.
-
7
Lift your dog's paw up and trim the fur growing between the paw pads. Cut the fur down until it is no longer visible. Trim fur on the top of the paws so the fur is short and not growing over the paw.
-
8
Angle your scissors down and trim the leg fur. Cut the fur down until it is short, yet still slightly fluffy. Repeat with each leg.
-
9
Cut the underbelly fur at an angle. Start at one foot and work toward the other foot on the same side of the dog. Cut the fur so the middle of the under belly is shorter than the sides. Only cut off a little at a time. Keep the edges of the fur rounded, not angular.
-
10
Twist your dogs tail up and pull it toward the dog's back. Trim the fur around the anus to an inch. Cut the rest of the fur on the backside down about 1/2 inch. Cut 1/2-inch to an inch of hair from length of the tail. Brush out the tail so the hair sticks up. Trim any longer strands.
