How to Knit a Romantic Ruffle Scarf
Ruffles are an adorable detail to add to a project. A knit ruffled scarf is a beautiful alternative to an ordinary scarf. With ruffles up and down the scarf, the wearer looks feminine and flirty. With just a bit of extra yarn and stitching, a scarf can be transformed into a ruffled masterpiece.
Things You'll Need
- 3 skeins worsted weight yarn
- Size 8 straight knitting needles
- Size 11 straight knitting needles

First Ruffle and Body of Scarf

Using the larger needles, cast on 50 stitches using two strands of yarn.

Knit rows one to nine in garter stitch (knit every row).

Purl row 10.

Change to smaller needles and to one strand of yarn to complete row 11. Cut the other strand of yarn and weave in its end. Knit two stitches together all the way across.

Purl row 12.

Knit the first 18 rows of the body of the scarf in stockinette stitch (knit right-side rows and purl wrong-side rows).

Complete the next 18 rows in reverse stockinette (purl right-side rows and knit wrong-side rows).

Repeat Steps 6 and 7 until the body of the scarf measures about 6 feet, ending after having completed one stockinette block.
End Ruffle of Scarf

Complete row one by increasing one stitch in each stitch by knitting into the front and back across the whole row.

Change to larger needles and two strands of yarn. Purl row two.

Knit rows three through 11 in garter stitch. Cast off and weave in the end.

Tips & Warnings
Add extra ruffles for a splashier look by repeating Section 2 as many times as you'd like.
