How to Make Your Roots Seem Lighter
When you dye your hair a lighter shade, you will have to deal with the annoying problem of dark roots showing as the the weeks progress toward your next application. Depending on how dark your natural hair color is, this could prove to be embarrassing. Mix 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 cup of water and apply lemon juice to the roots. Sit in the sun for an hour, then shampoo as normal.

Apply 1 cup of full-strength hydrogen peroxide to your roots at night before bed. Be sure to saturate the roots. Place a shower cap or scarf over your head. Wash your hair in the morning and style as usual. Hydrogen peroxide lightens gradually, so this process may need to be repeated several times until you reach the desired shade.

Use a temporary hair crayon or roller. Comb or dab it onto your roots according to the directions on the package. It will make your roots appear lighter, since it will color over your hair but not change the color. Since it is temporary, it will last only until you wash it out.

Smooth or spray a hair shine product onto the roots of your hair. These products make the hair lie flat, which reflects light. This will make your hair shiny and appear lighter because it will reflect light.

Be careful to shield your head from rain after using the hair color crayon because it can run.
Hydrogen peroxide will make your hair feel sticky, so it is best to apply it when you won't be going out. At night may be the best time; then you can wash it out in the morning.
