Adding an Aptiva shredder to your office can be an effective way to keep you protected, but it pays to have some troubleshooting skills for when things go wrong. Instructions

    • 1

Remove and reposition the waste basket into the housing of the Aptiva shredder if the "door open" light is illuminated. For safety reasons the Aptiva shredder cannot operate unless the waste basket is properly installed.

    • 2

Check the safety interlock tab if the "door open" light remains illuminated after the waste basket is in place. If the tab is broken, remove it by taking out the two screws on either side, then order a replacement from Aptiva customer service.

    • 3

Move the paper switch to the reverse, or REV, position if you experience a paper jam. Hold the REV button down and carefully pull the paper out of the shredder. Press the REV button and then the AUTO/ON button if the paper remains jammed. Continue pressing both buttons one at a time until the paper is freed.

    • 4

Run lubricant sheets through the Aptiva printer if you hear a metal-on-metal sound when paper is being put through the shredder. These lubricant sheets help keep the Aptiva shredder running smoothly. Feed the lubricant sheets through the shredder one at a time, and continue the lubrication until the shredder is working normally.
