How to Kill Spiders Around Your Home Without Pesticides

Get rid of spiders with natural home remedies.

Spiders are beneficial to have around because they kill unwanted and bothersome insects; however, some people are afraid of spiders and would rather keep them away. Aside from the black widow and brown recluse, spiders are not dangerous. If you still want to kill spiders or just keep them away from your home, you can do so without the use of toxic pesticides.

Things You'll Need

• Lime, orange or lemon peels
• Lavender or mint plants
• Sticky tape traps
• Vacuum cleaner
• Vinegar
• Chili pepper oil
• Spray bottle

Instructions

1. Lay lime, orange or lemon peels around your garden and the perimeter of your home. The smell of citrus deters spiders, but take note that it might attract other bugs.

2. Plant lavender or mint plants around your home. The strong aroma of these plants repels spiders.

3. Put sticky tape traps in corners and other places around the home to catch spiders. You can buy these sticky traps at most home improvement centers.

4. Suck up spiders with a vacuum cleaner hose. Use the hose to suck up any cobwebs where spiders could be lurking. The spiders will be killed once sucked through the vacuum cleaner.

5. Make a homemade spray of vinegar and drops of chili pepper oil. Mix it in a spray bottle and spray it directly onto spiders or webs to kill them.

Tips & Warnings

• Spiders are important to the ecosystem, so it's not advised to kill them unnecessarily. Instead, use methods to deter spiders from entering your home.
