Create a backdrop for the head table at a wedding reception.

The head table is the focal point of a wedding reception. The bride, groom, best man, maid of honor, and sometimes the parents of the couple sit during the event. The head table is usually set apart from the guest tables at the front of the room. Create a backdrop for the head table to hide walls or open spaces behind it. A backdrop will enhance the head table, making the space more intimate and beautiful.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the room behind the head table and the length of the table with a measuring tape. Cut a lattice panel to the size of these measurements.

    • 2

Paint the surface and sides of the lattice panel with white paint. Use long, even strokes to brush the paint on. Let the lattice sit for 24 hours to dry.

    • 3

Choose strings of twinkle lights with white wires so that they do not stand out against the white lattice. Unwind the strings of lights. Start with one string and weave it through one side of the lattice. Work the lights into vertical lines across the lattice panel. Plug each new string of lights into the previous string as you add it to the lattice.

    • 4

Drape lengths of tulle over the surface of the lattice and lights to cover them. Fold 4 to 6 inches of tulle over the top of the lattice panel to the backside. Attach the folded-over portion of tulle to the back of the lattice using a staple gun, stapling every 3 to 4 inches along the edge of the lattice. Do not staple through the strings of lights.

    • 5

Cut 24-inch-wide strips of chiffon, using material that matches your wedding colors. Drape the chiffon strips along the top of the lattice in scallops or let the strips fall vertically over the tulle. Staple the tops of the chiffon to the backside of the lattice panel to secure.

    • 6

Set the decorated backdrop against the wall behind the head table. Plug the twinkle lights into an outlet to light the backdrop.
