How to Troubleshoot Netboot

Netboot for the Mac OS is used on the server and allows the booting of a computer that is connected to a network. When a network client is not able to boot, there may be a problem with the service that is installed on the server. To check for a problem, you will need to access AFP from the server. This allows you to check for configuration issues and permissions for the owner and client machines.

Instructions

      Start AFP from the desktop and select "Netboot" that is listed in the left panel. Click the "Stop Service" icon in the toolbar.

      Put a check in the box for at least one port. Verify that a check is in the "Images" and "Clear Data" box for the Volume.

      Click the "Save" button to continue. Verify that there is a check in the box for each machine that needs to boot.

      Click the icon for "Workgroup Manager." Verify that there is a name and password in the "Name" text box and the "Password" text box.

      Click the "Sharing" icon on the toolbar. Click the option for "Shared" in the second column. Verify you have check in the boxes for "Share this item and its contents" and "Enable Access Control Lists on the volume."

      Click the option for "Access" on the right panel. Verify that the option for "Read & Write" is currently selected for "Owner" and "Group."

      Click the "Save" button and then close the Workgroup Manager. Click the option for "Start Service" in the toolbar.
