Creating a wig can be useful for designing costumes or trying to look good. There are many ways to make wigs. Generally, these methods involving creating a cap and then attaching hair strands to the cap. One of these ways is to crochet a wig. Crocheting makes objects out of one continuous strand of yarn. A crocheted cap is useful because the yarn will be flexible enough to stretch slightly depending on the head size of the person who is wearing the wig. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the head of the person who is going to wear the wig. Find it around the widest area just above the ears. Also find the height of the person's head from the ears to the top of the head. Write these down to keep them handy as you crochet.

    • 2

Place your crochet needles in your hands so that the needle with the hook is in your writing hand and the other needle in your nonwriting hand. Wrap the end of your yarn around the hook on your writing hand needle.

    • 3

Use the nonwriting hand needle to bring the yarn over itself and tie it in crochet knots. Create a circular shape using a double crochet knotting method until you have created a circle about an inch in diameter.

    • 4

Pull your yarn outward from your original circle and continue using double crochet knots around the edge of the circle to expand its diameter. Crochet until you move around the entire circle and pull another yarn thread out to continue expanding the circle.

    • 5

Continue double crocheting in this method until you have reached the diameter of your person's head. Place it on the person's head to see if it fits comfortably. Add more crochet knots or remove them to adjust the size.

    • 6

Cut the leftover yarn off, leaving about 1 inch, and tie it to a piece of yarn near the end of the string. Tight it tightly to hold your cap together.

    • 7

Place your fake hair strands on top of your crocheted cap and sew them in place at the top of the strand using your sewing thread. Line up the strands so they flow in the same direction. Sew multiple strands to the cap in the same spot to avoid excessive sewing.

    • 8

Create multiple layers of hair strands to give your hair a fuller, more realistic look. Sew these underneath the other strands with your sewing thread.

    • 9

Put the cap on the head of the person who is going to wear it. Have the person turn his head so you can check for bald spots on the wig. Remove the cap and attach more hair strands to cover the bald spots.
