How to Build a Storm Trooper Helmet
Storm Troopers are soldiers who do the bidding of the Galactic Empire in the "Star Wars" movies. They have a distinctive suit of white armor, including the now iconic helmet. If you wish to make a Storm Trooper helmet, you could buy an expensive kit or you could make a simple one out of two empty milk jugs.
Things You'll Need
- 1-gallon milk jugs (x2)
- White spray paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Hot glue gun
- Single hole puncher
- Elastic band
Instructions

1
Rinse out the 1-gallon milk jugs. Allow them to dry thoroughly.
-
2
Cut the bottom out of the first milk jug. Cut off the entire front half, including the handle and everything up to the spout. Leave the spout intact. Turn what is left around and cut out everything from the bottom to about 2 inches from where the milk jug start to taper in towards the spout. This will be referred to as "Piece A."

-
3
Cut a circle out of the leftover scraps from the first jug. The circle should be about twice the circumference of the spout. This will be the "Circle Piece."
-
4
Cut the spout off of the second milk jug. Use this hole to cut the rest of the jug in half. Halve this half, horizontally. You will be left with a piece that is half the size of a spout hole on top. This will be called "Piece B" from now on.
-
5
Glue the circle onto the hole at the top of Piece B with the hot glue gun. Allow it to dry before proceeding.
-
6
Glue Piece B onto the rest of Piece A. Piece A should be lying down with the spout facing out. The circle you glued to the top of piece B should be at the top. This is the base for your mask.
-
7
Glue the lids of the two jugs on either side of the spout hole, which will serve as the breathing hole.
-
8
Cut eyes out of the front of the mask. Try the mask on the person to see where the eyes should fall, as this is different for everyone.
-
9
Punch a hole with the single hole puncher through each side of the mask. Lace the elastic through and tie off each side. This will help keep the mask on.
-
10
Spray paint the entire mask with white paint. If you have the jugs of milk that are already white in color, you can skip this step if you wish. Allow the mask to dry.
-
11
Paint around the eyes and a strip across the head area with black acrylic paint. See references for a picture of what should be painted black for a proper Stormtrooper helmet. Allow to dry and the mask is complete.

Tips & Warnings
You can use white acrylic paint to paint the mask, but spray paint is faster.
Always paint in a well-ventilated area.
