How to Sell Your Newly-Designed Products on eBay
Setting up a business to sell your handcrafted, baked or designed items usually requires a lot of investment. The eBay online auction and sales website makes this unnecessary, and keeps more money in your pocket so that you can continue designing new products. The key to selling items -- especially ones that are new to eBay buyers -- is to do a bit of research, get a feel for the market, and brag to Web browsers and buyers why they need to bid on or snap up your item.

1
Do an eBay search to see what, if any, other items similar to or the same as yours are already listed on the site. You may have just created your first cat-themed jewelry, but there may be useful trends on existing items you can take advantage of. Note the items' condition and their listed and current auction prices, where applicable. This will be helpful when you're creating your own listing.
-
2
Choose the correct category for your item. This is one of the first things you'll do on the seller form. The chances of your category being available are high -- almost everything has been sold on eBay at one time or another. You may have to drill down in the suggested categories to find your newly-designed product, but it is worth it -- when placed in the wrong category, you may miss out on sales.

3
Type an engaging and all-encompassing description of the item, especially since it is something new. Instead of simply typing "Necklace," add details about the item being, for example, handcrafted, made from glazed candy pieces and/or on a stretchable chain to accommodate multiple sizes. Try to create a reason for the buyer to want to purchase your item -- which may be up against many similar items -- by using descriptive language and setting a scene.
-
4
Add at least one photograph. The picture upload process is on the first page of the auction-listing form. The first picture upload is free, so take advantage of it. Get a well-lit, close-up image, and crop out unnecessary background. Add additional photos for better chances at sales, or to illustrate item problems and defects such as stains or breakage to ensure against problems at the end of the sale.
-
5
Price your item to combine your own comfort level with an enticement to buyers. You don't want to lose money or give away your item, but you also want buyers to choose you over other sellers. Add information about your positive feedback record, where applicable, and how fast you ship, such as "Leaves the door within 24 hours of purchase."
-
6
Make yourself available to answer buyer questions, which may come in over the time period of the auction, especially on something new and unfamiliar. Buyers post questions through eBay -- so your email address is protected -- and you respond the same way. A quick response from you may make the difference between your item going unsold and being snapped up. You also have the option to include the questions in your posting, which may be beneficial to other visitors to your item's auction page.
-
7
Revisit the auction listing after it has ended to resell similar items. Take advantage of the "Sell a Similar Item" button on the seller page to save time and use your original item as a template.
