How to Attach a Kirby Shampooer to a Vacuum Cleaner

A Kirby vacuum shampooer is a conversion kit that makes your Kirby vacuum a carpet shampooer. The kit includes a water and soap reservoir, a hose connector and a shampoo tray. The kit is simple to install on a vacuum and does not require any special equipment.       Unplug your Kirby vacuum and put the handle in the upright position. Remove the vacuum bag by pressing the tab that holds it in place at the top then turning the bottom portion clockwise to unlock it.

      Lift the cover on the top of the vacuum head. Open the hinge on the front of the vacuum head. Turn the hinge, also known as the belt lifter, counterclockwise to loosen the head then push the lock up and counterclockwise. Remove the head.

      Push the shampooer reservoir tank into place over the opening where the bottom of the vacuum bag attached to the vacuum. Turn the reservoir counterclockwise so it sits lengthwise against the side of the vacuum.

      Hold the shampooer tray so the front faces away from you. Turn the belt lifter until the belt is lifted all the way then put the tray on the front of the vacuum where the head was. Turn the lock clockwise to secure the tray. Turn the belt lifter clockwise to loosen the belt.

      Connect the shampooer hose to the bottom hole in the reservoir, next to where it attaches to the vacuum. Connect the other hinged end of the hose to the hole in the front of the tray.
