How to Train in Starcraft
"Starcraft" is an extremely popular real-time strategy game released in March 1998 and developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel, also from Blizzard Enterainment, is titled "Starcraft 2," and was released in July 2010. Both games are highly complex and competitive, and require skill and training to properly master. There is even a chance for players who excel at the game to enter tournaments and win significant cash prizes for their ability to play these popular games.

1
Learn the basics of how the game is played, as well as the general characteristics of the three races, the Protoss, the Terran and the Zerg. Pay particular attention to the hotkeys, as top "Starcraft" players use hotkeys to significantly increase the speed at which they play.
-
2
Develop what are called "build orders" for each of the races for various strategies. Build orders are the order in which you create buildings and units and will have a significant effect on what kind of civilization you create. Try to create large amounts of cheap units early in the game to quickly overwhelm your opponent, or progress quickly through basic buildings and advance to units with flight, to try and put your opponent at a disadvantage. The key to any playing strategy is going to be what you build and how you manage resources, and it is a skill that must be mastered. Use pen and paper to write down build orders so that you can consult your build order strategy during the game.

3
Play all the different maps that come with "Starcaft" to the point where you are familiar with the features of all of them. Most good "Starcraft" players know every detail of a map before the game starts, which puts them at an immediate advantage over players who do not know the map as well.
-
4
Join a ladder, such as iCCup, which stands for International Cyber Cup, when you have mastered the basic game-play. The most efficient way to train for "Starcraft" is to play against other "Starcraft" players -- and a ladder -- where you are matched against players above and below you on the ladder, and are moved up and down based on your performance, which is an ideal way to develop.
-
5
Record and rewatch old games to try and discern both what you did wrong and what your opponent did right. Adjust your playing strategies to incorporate new knowledge, try new strategies against new opponents and learn from what works and what does not. As you refine your game-play, you will improve as a "Starcraft" player, which should be reflected by you moving up the ladder.
