How to Close My Web Browser

The process of closing a Web browser is basically the same, no matter which browser you are using. Common browsers include Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera. The standard methods for closing the browser may not work if the browser is frozen or not responding. In those situations you'll want to open the Task Manager to force the browser to close.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "X" button in the upper-right corner of the browser window. This should close the Web browser, unless it's frozen or unresponsive.

    • 2

Click on the "File" button, if applicable, then click on "Exit" for an alternate method.

    • 3

Push the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Esc" buttons on your keyboard simultaneously to open the Task Manager. Click on the Web browser in the task list, then click "End Task." This will force the Web browser to close if the other methods do not work.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also right-click on the Windows taskbar and select "Open Task Manager" to open the Windows Task Manager.
