How to Rip Blu-Ray to MKV

The MKV format, or Mastroka, is an open-source multimedia container format capable of holding several audio, video and subtitle tracks. Ripping or converting Blu-Ray discs to MKV format may require downloading or purchasing Blu-Ray conversion software because your computer does not come with a standard conversion program.       Open your Internet browser and visit the download page for VSO-Software's Blu-Ray Converter Ultimate. Click the "Free Download" button at the top of the screen and wait for the program to download to your hard drive. Double-click the program file to initiate the installation process. Follow the software's instructions for installing Blu-Ray Converter Ultimate to your computer, agree to the licensing terms and launch the program.

      Insert your Blu-Ray into your computer's disc drive. Click the "BLURAY" button in the upper-left corner of the screen to enter the Blu-Ray Input Folder Selection window. Select your Blu-Ray's "BDMV" folder and click "OK" to load it in the program's main interface.

      Press the "Main Features" drop-down arrow on the left side of the screen and click the "Main Title (Default)" box so a check mark appears. De-select all other unwanted titles. Choose the desired language track in the Audio Track drop-down box, any wanted Subtitle Tracks and click "Next Step" to enter the Settings window.

      Click the "Output Profile" button near the top of the screen and select an "MKV" with "Low" or "High" resolution option.

      Press the "Output Folder" drop-down box in the Output File Settings portion of the screen and choose a save location on your hard drive to save your converted MKV to. Create a new folder or choose an existing folder on your computer and click "Save" to return to the program's main menu.

      Click the "Convert" button in the lower-right corner of the screen to begin converting and processing your video. Track its progress by watching the Conversion Settings window, which provides an estimated remaining conversion time.

      Click the "Profile" drop-down box and select the "MKV Video Format (*.mkv)" output option. Press the "Settings" button to choose any advanced settings like bit rate, frame rate and frame size.

      Click the "Browse" button next to the Destination field at the bottom of the screen to change your default save location, if needed. Choose an existing folder or create a new folder on your computer and click "Save" to return to Tipard Blu-Ray Converter.

      Launch your Internet browser and visit Leawo Blu-Ray Video Converter's download page. Click the "Download Now" button for a free trial version of the software. Run the downloaded program file and follow the on-screen installation instructions. Agree to the terms of use and open Leawo Blu-Ray Video Converter.

      Insert your Blu-Ray into your computer's disc drive. Exit out of any Windows Explorer pop-up screens. Import your Blu-Ray's contents by clicking the "Add Video" button in the top-left corner of the screen. Navigate to your disc's main folder, highlight its icon and click "Add" or "Open" to load your Blu-Ray in the program's main screen.

      Click the feature title's box in Leawo Blu-Ray Video Converter so a check mark appears. De-select all unwanted titles. Click the "Profile" box and hold your cursor over the "Common Video" or "HD Video" arrow, depending on your needs. Choose an "MKV" output option.

      Press the "Settings" button to the right of the Profile box to make advanced setting changes, like codec, quality, bit rate and more. If converting for a specific device or program, be sure to consult your user manual for the correct audio and video settings. Click "OK" to save your changes and return to the main screen.

Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space, as MKVs can be large in size, depending on your output settings.
