The advent of complex origami is attributed to Akira Yoshizawa, who developed thousands of paper folding techniques.

Origami Christmas stockings are Christmas stockings fashioned out of a piece of wrapping paper or construction paper. An origami Christmas stocking is only one project out of an array of origami paper crafts. Origami was created around the 7th century in China, and was later brought to Japan. It was first used for practical purposes, such as making paper items and folding letters. In the 17th century, origami became an art form, and was used to make more artistic objects, such as boats and cranes. Many origami projects, such as origami Christmas Stockings, can be easily created with a few simple folding steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Use scissors to cut out a 6-by-6 inch piece of wrapping paper or construction paper that is colored on one side.

    • 2

Place the paper on a flat surface with the colored or patterned side facing up. Take the top of the paper and fold it over 1 inch.

    • 3

Flip the paper over. Fold it in half. Make sure the edges meet and are even.

    • 4

Open the paper back up. Take the right corner and fold it in so it is flush with the center line. Take the left corner and fold it into the center.

    • 5

Fold the unfolded left edge portion (not the corner,) into the center. Fold it over two more times. There should now be a straight side on one side and a softer side on the other.

    • 6

Fold it over onto the straight side. Fold the corner over until it reaches the edge of the top fold.

    • 7

Fold the corner backwards so it is flush with the bottom side. The corner will pop out from the bottom, which forms the shape of the foot end of a stocking. If desired, glue the corner down so it makes an immovable, sturdy paper stocking.
