Your baseball hat can fit your head just right.

For avid baseball hat wearers, there's nothing worse than an ill-fitting hat, especially one that is too big. You may be able to shrink it, however. Many of the popular professional baseball hats are made out of polyester, a fabric that is notoriously difficult to shrink. Although you can get your hat to fit properly by exposing it to heat and perspiration, it takes time. If you want your new polyester baseball hat to fit properly right away, there is a faster way which requires heating the hat both in the shower and the oven. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a sink with warm water and a capful of laundry detergent.

    • 2

Add the hat and gently hand wash it to remove excess dye, then fill the sink with clean water to rinse out the soap.

    • 3

Turn on the oven to about 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 4

Turn on your shower to the hottest water temperature you can stand and get in. Let the water fall directly onto the hat for 10 minutes as you hold it to your head just as you want it to fit.

    • 5

Get out of the shower and place your hat in the preheated oven until it is fully dry.

    • 6

Remove the hat from the oven and allow it to cool for several minutes.

    • 7

Try on the hat to see if it fits as you would like.

    • 8

Place the hat in a pot of boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes if the size is not how you want it, then repeat the shower and oven steps until the hat fits to suit you.

Tips & Warnings

  • If any of the dye starts to bleed onto any white parts of your hat, wash in the sink immediately with laundry detergent.
