How to Make a Friendship Bracelet Template
Friendship bracelets were originally designed by natives in Central and South America. Custom holds that when you're tying the band to the wrist of a friend, you are to make a wish, which is to be granted when the bracelet wears out and falls off. Friendship bracelets can be made with beads, but are traditionally made with colored thread. The design of each bracelet can be customized to suit the individual who wears it.
Instructions

1
Measure the circumference of your friend's wrist. Add an inch to your measurement to determine the length of the friendship bracelet.
-
2
Determine the gauge of the materials you are using to make your friendship bracelet. Each square on the graph paper will represent one bead or one knot of thread. Knot or bead a 10-by-10-inch square test to see how much space each knot or bead takes up.

3
Calculate how many knots or beads will be needed to complete the length of the friendship bracelet. Mark a line on the top of the graph paper and count out the number of squares horizontally and then mark a line at the bottom of the last square you counted. Trace a horizontal line between those two points. If the count goes over the length of one page, tape a second page to the bottom of the first page. Be sure to tape the pages together on the backside of the paper, as you will be using the face for the design.

4
Calculate how many knots or beads will be needed to complete the desired width of the friendship bracelet. Count out this number on the graph vertically from the horizontal line. Draw a parallel line to create a rectangle.
-
5
Draft in pencil the design you would like to have on your friendship bracelet.
-
6
Color in the squares of the graph paper to complete your design. Each block of color represents either a knot or a bead that will need to be executed in the construction of the bracelet.
