Make a fairy wand to complement a fairy costume.

Make a magical and glistening fairy wand with tulle fabric and a foam ball. This wand is the perfect addition to any fairy costume, and by making it yourself, you can customize the colors. The tulle fabric, when placed over the ball, creates a whimsical, wavy tuft at the end of the wand that you can embellish with sparkle. Children can use the wand for playtime, dress-up or as part of a Halloween costume.

  • Acrylic paints
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

    • 1

Paint a wooden dowel in a pastel fairy color, such as pink or purple, with acrylic paint.

    • 2

Press a dowel about an inch into the foam ball. Pull it back out, add hot glue to the end of the dowel, and then push it back into the ball. Allow it to dry.

    • 3

Pinch the tulle circles in the center with your fingers and add a drop of hot glue to the bottom pinched area of the circle. Press the glued area onto the foam ball. This will create a tuft of fabric protruding from the ball. You will add at least 30 to 40 circles this way, placing the pinched tulle circles close to each other to cover the entire ball. Use all of one pastel fairy color or mix and match different colors.

    • 4

Decorate the wooden dowel by painting swirling designs with paint or with ribbons and flat-back gemstones for additional fairy sparkle.

    • 5

Use spray glitter to spray over the entire wand, including over the tulle area.

    • 6

Cut six pieces of satin ribbon the same length as the wand handle. Tie the ribbons to the top of the wand, right under the edge where the tulle ball begins. Allow the ribbons to dangle freely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Packaged, pre-cut tulle circles and spray glitter are available at craft stores.

  • Glue mini silk flowers and leaves or fake butterflies to the wand for embellishment.
