How to Grade a Speaker
Public speaking is an invaluable skill that requires preparation and practice. An honest evaluation of a speech helps the speaker gain confidence and improves when necessary. When grading or evaluating a speaker, you should listen carefully and pay attention to the nonverbal cues that the speaker is exhibiting. Along with the grade, try to offer constructive comments to help her improve.

1
Evaluate the speaker's poise and confidence. The speaker you are grading should communicate ease and comfort in public speaking, despite any nerves. A nervous speaker is distracting to watch and should receive a lower score.
-
2
Watch for the speaker to connect with the audience through eye contact. She should have clear enunciation and good speech volume. A successful speaker will grasp and hold on to the audience's attention while a mediocre speaker makes little effort to connect with the audience.

3
Listen to the clarity of the speaker's message. She should have an introduction that lays the basis for her speech, a well-planned body and a conclusion that ties up any loose ends.
-
4
Pay attention to the visual aids the speaker uses. She should use visual aids that are easy to see and understand; that add information to the presentation and do not distract. Average or poor speakers might use visual aids that just add clutter and distraction to the speech.
