How to Fix a Tear in Cashmere Sweaters
A cashmere sweater that's been snagged on a sharp object or eaten by moths will show a visible tear. The only way to fix such damage is to take the garment to a tailor or stitch the hole with a darning needle. When making repairs at home, choose yarn that closely matches the color of the cashmere sweater. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn the cashmere sweater inside out and put it on a flat work surface. Locate the open stitches on the bottom and top rows of the tear in the sweater. Gently lift the visible stitches with the tip of your finger, making them easily accessible to a darning needle. It's important to keep the stitches aligned as you will push your needle through the top and bottom rows.

2
Insert approximately 2 feet of yarn through the eye of a darning needle; allow the ends of the yarn to hang freely without the use of a knot. Push the needle through the stitches on the top row, and then slip the needle down and through the stitches on the bottom row.

3
Move the darning needle from the bottom row to the top row, using an under and over stitch. Continue weaving the needle through the stitches in a zigzag pattern to mend the tear.

4
Cut the needle free from the yarn with scissors; tie loose ends in a knot to secure stitches in place. Cut long strands of yarn that hang from knots.
