How to Crush Licorice Roots
Many people are familiar with licorice candy but few realize that licorice is a naturally occurring herb. Licorice grows in Eastern Europe and parts of Asia. While it is used commonly in medicinal treatment in China, it has limited medicinal applications in the United States. Licorice root has proved beneficial in easing throat soreness or irritation, upset stomach and gastric and duodenal ulcers. To administer it, crush the root and ingest it by adding it to food or a beverage. Does this Spark an idea?

Split the roots in half with a knife and place them in a brown paper bag. Dry them for six months to remove all the moisture.

Slice the dried root into smaller pieces.

Place a few pieces into a mortar. Grind the root with the pestle until it becomes a powder with an even consistency.

Repeat the process to crush all of the root.

Store the crushed root in a small, labeled jar or bottle.
