How to Get an Azumarill in "Pokemon Sapphire"

In the "Pokemon" games, Azumarill is an aquatic creature that resembles a rabbit. Its long ears help it detect predators, while its blue and white body acts as camouflage. In Pokemon battles, Azumarill excels in defensive strength; however, it can also attack foes with a variety of Water-type attacks, including Water Gun, Bubble Beam and Hydro Pump. In "Pokemon Sapphire," you will obtain this Pokemon after evolving a Marill.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to Oldale Town in southwest Hoenn.

    • 2

      Walk west onto Route 102.

    • 3

Go to the pond in the northeast corner of the route and enter the water using the Surf ability.

    • 4

Swim around the pond until you encounter a wild Marill. Marill has a 99 percent encounter rate, so expect to find multiple specimens ranging between levels five and 35.

    • 5

Weaken the wild Marill with attacks, but don't knock it out. It is vulnerable to Electric- and Grass-type attacks.

    • 6

Throw a PokeBall to capture the wild Marill and add it to your party.

    • 7

Allow Marill to participate in battles against rival trainers and wild Pokemon. When Marill has enough experience to reach level 18, it will evolve into Azumarill. If your new Marill is already above level 18, it will evolve once it grows one more level.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have the Surf ability, collect five Gym Badges from around the Hoenn region. Visit the house beside the Petalburg City Gym and talk to the family inside. You will receive an item that allows your Water-type Pokemon to learn the Surf ability.

  • You can also find wild Marill in the waters of Routes 111, 114, 117, 120 and Petalburg City.
