How to Make a D-Ring Belt
Wrap fashion and function around your waist with a homemade belt that doesn't require you to work with the specialized tools and industrial sewing machine that leather requires. Instead, you can fashion your belt from fabric and a couple of D-rings using your regular home sewing machine to match any outfit in your closet. Cloth D-ring belts also make quick and simple homemade gifts for a fashion-loving loved one.

1
Measure around your waist with a measuring tape. Measure where the top of your jeans rest since that is where the belt will need to fit. Cut a 4 inch wide strip of cotton quilter's fabric 8 inches longer than your waist measurement.

2
Fold all four edges of the fabric to the wrong side 1/2 inch. Iron all the folds. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the right side of the fabric facing out, and iron this fold, as well. Sew along all three open edges of the fabric with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Thread one end of the strip through both D-rings, and fold it a 1/2 inch over the flat side of the rings. Sew the folded over part of the strip to the rest of the strip by sewing over the seam already on that end of the fabric to complete the belt.

Tips & Warnings
Embellish the belt by sewing buttons or attaching rhinestones to it; just don't attach them to the part of the belt that gets fed through the D-rings when putting the belt on.
Use a decorative stitch, if your machine has one, and sew around the whole perimeter of the belt, not just the three open edges, for a special personalized touch.
