How to Change Transparent Crosshair for CSS in CFG

Changes that you make to give yourself an edge when playing "Counter-Strike: Source" (CSS) online can make the difference between winning and losing a match. By making your crosshair transparent, you can increase your chances of landing a head shot on an enemy from across the map. You can alter your crosshair transparency by creating and uploading a special crosshair configuration (CFG) file to the "Counter-Strike: Source" CFG directory.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu button and then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Appearance and Personalization." Click "Folder Options."

    • 3

Clear the check from the "Hide extensions for known file types" box. Click "OK." Close the "Control Panel" window.

    • 4

Click the "Start" menu button and then click "Computer." Open your primary hard drive and then double-click "Program Files," "Steam," "steamapps," your Steam user-name folder, "counter-strike source," "cstrike" and "CFG."

    • 5

Right-click on an empty area of the CFG folder and then select "New" and "Text Document." Double-click the text document to open it.

    • 6

Type "cl_crosshairalpha [value]" and press "Enter." Replace "[value]" with a number between "0" (completely transparent) and "255" (opaque). For example, to set the crosshair to a medium level of transparency, type "cl_crosshairalpha 128."

    • 7

Click the "File" menu and then select "Save" to save the file.

    • 8

Right-click the text file and then select "Rename." Enter "crosshair.cfg" as the name of the text file and then click "OK" to confirm the name.

    • 9

Right-click "autoexec.cfg" and then select "Open With." Choose "Notepad" or "WordPad" from the application list and then click "OK" to open the file. If "autoexec.cfg" does not exist in the CFG folder, create a new text file and rename it "autoexec.cfg."

    • 10

Type "exec crosshair.cfg" on a blank line at the top of the "autoexec.cfg" file.

    • 11

Click the "File" menu and then click "Save" to save the file.
