Instructions

    • 1

Use a rolling pin to roll out commercially prepared or homemade fondant until it is very thin, a bit less than 1/4-inch thick. Cut fondant shapes that match the shape of the cookies by cutting them with the same cutter you used to cut out the cookies.

    • 2

Coat the top of the cookie with a little water or corn syrup. Use your kitchen brush to do this so that you can control the amount that is going on the cookie. Alternatively, spread a tiny amount of regular frosting on the top of the cookie. These substances act as glue to hold the fondant in place.

    • 3

Align the fondant shape over the cookie shape.

    • 4

Press the fondant gently onto the cookie with the palm of the hand. Decorate your cookies further, or serve them with this pretty topping alone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tint the fondant for colorful cookies. Knead a coloring agent into the fondant until you have the color you want.

  • If fondant is sticking to your work surface while you are rolling it out, cast a bit of cornstarch or powdered sugar across the surface.
