How to Broil a Steak in a Whirlpool Range
Nothing tastes better than a steak cooked on the grill, but adverse weather conditions may prevent you from cooking outdoors. In the event this happens to you, broil the meat in the oven. Cooking steak in the broiler is a convenient option to grilling outdoors. Custom-broil any steak in the oven using the dry heat method. Things You'll Need
- Whirlpool electric range
- Broiler pan and grid
- 1-inch thick steak
- Salt
- Pepper
- Steak seasonings (optional)
- Tongs
- Hot pad

Position the top rack of your Whirlpool electric range about 4 to 5 inches from the top of the oven. Remove the steak from the refrigerator. Trim excess fat from the steak before broiling, to prevent smoke from splattering grease. Slit the remaining fat to prevent curling on the edges. Season both sides of the steak with salt and pepper. Use extra steak seasonings if you want a spicier-tasting steak.

Line the bottom of the broiler pan with aluminum foil before broiling for easier cleaning. Place the seasoned steak directly on grid in the broiler pan provided with the Whirlpool range. Before broiling, position the rack according to the broiling chart. Steak requires placing the rack at position four.

Place the broiler pan on the center of the oven rack. Close the oven door to the broil stop position. This maintains the proper broiling temperature. Press BROIL, then press the TEMP/HOUR "up" or "down" arrow pad to change the temperature. Set broil temperature between 300 and 525 degrees Fahrenheit. Press the START button to begin broiling.

Broil a steak for 14 to 15 minutes on the first side, and 7 to 8 minutes on the second side if you prefer it medium rare. Broil it for 18 to 19 minutes on the first side, and about 10 minutes on the second side for a well-done steak. Pull out the oven rack to the stop position to turn the steak. Use a hot pad and tongs for turning the meat.

Remove the broiler pan from the oven to remove the steak. Place the cooked steak on a serving plate to check it cooked properly. Return to the oven if more cooking is required. Turn the oven to the OFF/CANCEL position when cooking is complete.

Tips & Warnings
Use tongs instead of a fork when turning steak to prevent loss of meat juices.
Do not leave broiling steak unattended.
