How to Not Show Your Relationship Status on Facebook

How to Not Show Your Relationship Status on Facebook thumbnail
Facebook offers more than five status options.

Displaying your relationship status on Facebook lets other users know if you are dating, married or "on the market." Facebook does not require you to choose a relationship status, however, so you can leave that section blank on your profile. If you do want to choose a relationship status but don't want the entire community to know your business, just keep the information restricted to only your friends list.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your Facebook account and click on the "Profile" link at the very top of any screen on the social networking site.

    • 2

Click on the "Edit Profile" button in the upper right corner of your profile page.

    • 3

Click on the "Friends and Family" link in the left column of the "Edit Profile" menu.

    • 4

Click on the downward arrow in the "Relationship" section to expose the relationship status drop-down menu. Choose the blank space at the very top of the menu, then click the blue "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the screen. Your relationship status is not shown on your account.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hide an existing relationship status, such as "Single" or "Married," from nonfriends by going to the "Account" link in the top right corner of any Facebook screen and choosing "Privacy Settings." Click the "Customize settings" link and use the gray icon next to "Relationships" to set the privacy level to "Friends Only."
