How to Make a Fork Necklace

Forks aren't just for tables.

Jewelry that turns everyday items into works of art makes an excellent statement piece. A fork necklace can be cute, elegant, punk or something else altogether depending upon how it is made. This craft requires little time and only a few supplies, so it's easy to make several different styles of fork necklace in only a few hours.

Things You'll Need

• Fork charm
• Necklace chain
• Needle-nose pliers
• Jump rings
• Lobster-claw necklace closure

Instructions

1. Purchase fork charms that will capture the style you want. A simple pendant style necklace only requires one fork. You can also, however, affix several forks of varying shapes and sizes to a chain for a charm necklace. Online suppliers like Etsy and Ebay frequently have extensive selections.

2. Choose a chain that matches the color of the fork charm and select matching jump rings. Jump rings are small metal rings used to attach pieces of jewelry together. The size of jump rings you should use is completely dependent upon the fork charms. Small charms require small jump rings, while larger charms need more substantial rings for support. As a general rule, look for jump rings that are about the size of the hook on the charm.

3. Pry open the jump ring using the needle-nose pliers and attach the fork charm to the open ring. While the ring is still open, thread the jump ring through the chain link where you want the fork attached. Then use the pliers to squeeze the ring back together.

4. Attach the components of the lobster-claw closure at either end of the necklace using the needle-nose pliers. One side will be a ring and the other side will be the claw that attaches to the ring.
