How to Make Bubble Tiers

Bubble tiers are layers of folded fabric that are attached to clothing like ruffle tiers. Add layers of bubble tiers to a shirt, skirt or dress for a unique fashion essential for a child or adult. Use a sheer fabric, such as organza or tulle, for tiers of light and poufed bubble ruffles, or use a heavier satin or velvet fabric for bubble tiers with just a little bit of volume.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the bottom hem of the shirt, dress or skirt. Cut a piece of fabric that measures 1 inch longer than the circumference and about 8 inches wide.

    • 2

Fold the piece of fabric to reduce the width to 4 inches.

    • 3

Pin the long, rough edge of the fabric to the hemline of the clothing. Sew a simple stitch around the hemline to attach the first bubble tier.

    • 4

Measure the circumference of the garment 3 inches above the hemline. Cut another piece of fabric that measures 1 inch longer than the circumference and 8 inches wide. Fold the fabric in the same manner as the first tier and pin it to the clothing, 3 inches above the hemline. Sew it in place.

    • 5

Measure 3 inches upward and find the circumference of the clothing. Cut another piece of fabric and sew it to the clothing in the same manner. Repeat to attach the bubble tiers all the way up the clothing.
