How to Get a Moldy Smell Out of Books
Books that sit for years in dark, damp basements or attics are the perfect breeding grounds for mold and mildew. Moisture is the ultimate enemy of vintage books, so anything you can do to promote dryness in your collection will help your book smell better and last longer. Stand the book up, and fan it out so as many of the pages are exposed to air as possible. Place the book in front of a fan or air conditioner for a few days.

Place the book inside a storage container, and put an opened box of baking soda inside as well, to absorb any remaining moisture. Let the book sit in the container with the baking soda for at least a week, or until the odor is gone.

Store the book in a clean, dry area so it will not absorb moisture again and attract mold and mildew.
