How to Fix a Formica Countertop Bubble thumbnail
Formica is commonly used in tabletops and countertops.

Formica is a laminate top glued to a wooden table or to a wooden countertop. Laminate adhesive is very strong, but over time, it can weaken and allow the Formica to bubble up. If the bubbled area has not rotted, you can use laminate adhesive and glue the Formica back to the wooden surface. This prevents you from having to replace the entire piece of Formica. Instructions

    • 1

Clean all of the debris you can locate from between the raised Formica and the wooden surface of the table or countertop. Pull out debris with a toothpick, or vacuum it out with a vacuum cleaner.

    • 2

Apply laminate adhesive to the surface of the countertop or table and to the underside of the Formica. Apply it with the toothpick and get as far back as possible, where the Formica joins with the wooden surface. Wait for the adhesive to dry to the touch. Although it feels dry to the touch, the pieces will still stick together.

    • 3

Roll the Formica back down with a laminate roller, starting from the location on the table or countertop where the Formica and wooden surface still join.

    • 4

Place a heavy object over the freshly glued surface for 24 hours to keep the Formica down while the adhesive fully cures.
