How to Get a Dust Mop Soft Again?

Wash your dust mop to restore softness.

Dust mops are designed for use on hard floor surfaces in place of a broom or similar cleaning tool that could scratch the floor surface. The dust mop is made of a soft fibrous cloth that collects loose dust from the floor as you wipe over your flooring. Over time, the mop can become hard and matted, making it important to clean and restore softness to the mop.

Things You'll Need

• Laundry detergent
• Baking soda
• Vinegar

Instructions

1. Remove the mop head from your dust mop. The head should pull or snap off the base.

2. Turn on the washing machine using a warm water wash, a capful of laundry detergent, 1 cup white vinegar and 1 cup baking soda. Place the dust mop in the washer and allow the cycle to complete. All cleaning ingredients will work in sync to clean and soften the mop.

3. Place the dust mop in the dryer and dry on low heat. The dryer will restore the fluffy texture of the mop.
