How to Dye the Inside of an Egg Black
The inside of an egg consists of the yolk and the white. While egg whites are clear in the raw state, they are white when cooked. These whites can be a blank canvas for artistic cooks armed with bottles of food coloring. Dye your hard-boiled egg whites black and use the results for the basis of Halloween party appetizers or simply an amusing breakfast item. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Spoon
- Tall glass
- Black liquid food coloring

Crack the shells and remove them from the hard-boiled eggs. Place an egg on a cutting board and slice through it from top to bottom, producing two identical halves.

Scoop out the yolk from each egg half, using a spoon. Do not to mash the yolk if you plan to use it whole later.

Fill a tall glass three-fourths full of warm water. Drop in black liquid food coloring, a few drops at a time. The amount of food coloring depends on the size of your glass. Stir the mixture until you have a rich black.

Drop the egg white halves into the glass of dyed water. Allow the egg whites to sit in the water. Move them around with a spoon every minute or two. Pull one egg white out after five minutes to check the color. When the color is as dark as you like, scoop the egg whites from the liquid.

Rinse the egg whites off with water until no more black coloring runs off. Allow the whites to dry. Serve them with the yolks replaced.
