How to Make a Bubble Dress Extra Poufy

How to Make a Bubble Dress Extra Poufy thumbnail
Add a layer of tulle into the center of your bubble skirt.

Make a dress with a bubble skirt extra poufy by adding an inner layer of tulle fabric to the skirt. You can add the tulle layer to a new skirt by sewing it in before finishing the dress, or you can modify an old bubble dress by opening the stitches that hold the bubble skirt in place. Add a single layer of tulle to add a little bit of puffiness, or make the dress as puffy as possible with as many layers of tulle as you can fit into the bubble skirt.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the dress inside out and lay it on your work surface. Undo the stitches around the waist that are holding the bottom of the skirt in place. Remove the stitches with a seam ripper.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the waist of the dress to the bottom of the bubble skirt. Measure the circumference of the waist and multiply this measurement by 2. Cut two pieces of tulle according to these measurements.

    • 3

Lay one piece of tulle on top of the other. Fold the tulle in half to reduce the length in half. Sew a wide gathering stitch down the long, rough edge. Do not sew along the folded edge. Pull the thread to gather this side of the skirt to the same circumference as the waist of the dress.

    • 4

Pin the gathered edge of the tulle skirt to the inside waistline of the dress and sew the puffy layer in place.

    • 5

Fold the bottom of the skirt back up to the waistline, over the top of the tulle fabric. Pin the bottom of the skirt back in place and sew it to reattach it to the dress.
