How to Make a Typography Text Cloud
Making a typography text cloud is a way of expressing yourself or your company. Artists use text clouds as logos, to print out on paper or as art for a website. The fonts do not have to be the same; text clouds typically contain more than one style of font in various sizes. The variety of sizes helps give the clouds depth, giving 2D artwork the appearance of a 3D graphic.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open a graphics program that allows for layers and an opacity effect, such as Photoshop or Gimp.
-
2
Create a background to represent the cloud color's background. Choose a dark shade for light type and a light shade for dark type. The more contrast, the more striking the text cloud's effect.
-
-
3
Make a shape to represent the boundary for the cloud, such as a cloud, letter or number. Lower the opacity of the shape to around 20 percent.
-
4
Add the type. Play with different fonts to see which fits best, such as Century Gothic or Poor Richard. Text clouds are a creative process, and the relation of the content to the font is not as important as it would be in a magazine. It is generally a matter of personal preference which font to use.
-
5
Change the size of some of the font. This will give depth to the image and make some words appear to be in the front and others in the back.
-
6
Lower the opacity of the shape to around 2 percent to create a border then add color to the text.
-
7
Place all of the layers, except for the shape, in a group layer. Then duplicate the group layer.
-
8
Merge the duplicated group so there is just one layer.
-
9
Add an effect, such as a gradient overlay, if desired. Save the file.
