How to Not Show a Link in Facebook

Don't show additional information such as a title, description or a thumbnail of an image from it when you include a link to external contact with a Facebook message if you want to conceal its contents from people who see the link. For example if you create an online card for someone, you don't want her knowing exactly where the site will take her when before she clicks the link. Posting from Facebook mobile apps always conceals this additional information.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the site you want to include in a Facebook status message. Double-click within the browser address bar and choose "Copy."

    • 2

Sign in to your Facebook account. Right-click within the "Status" field and choose "Paste." Hover your mouse over the link information when it appears and click the "X" button to delete the information from the link. Type in additional information about the link if necessary.

    • 3

Click the "Share" button to post the link as a text URL alongside the status message. Friends now only sell the URL address, without information about the contents of the site.

Tips & Warnings

  • As of the date of publication, it isn't possible to attach links to statuses using mobile applications -- links you paste in display as text -- so post using a mobile device whenever you want to conceal link information.
