How to Assign Hotkeys for Firefox

All Web browsers offer the ability to create bookmarks -- ways to save your favorite websites and visit them later. However, in order to use your bookmarks, you normally must use the mouse to click on "Bookmarks" or "Favorites," then scroll down to the bookmark you're looking for and click it. Many users would like the ability to hit a key or combination of keys on the keyboard and have the browser understand that key sequence as a direction to visit a certain site. Firefox offers you the opportunity to set up hotkeys to do this

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the SiteLauncher add-on site (addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sitelauncher). This add-on allows you to use a hotkey to bring up the launcher, and then use a customizable key sequence to access your favorite sites.

    • 2

Click the "Continue to Download" button. Read the license agreement, then click the "Agree and Install" button. Firefox downloads and installs the add-on automatically after you click the "Allow" button that pops up.

    • 3

Restart Firefox to complete the installation. Press "Ctrl" and the space bar simultaneously to launch SiteLauncher. A small window pops up with commonly visited sites.

    • 4

Configure SiteLauncher by choosing "Manage shortcuts" from the new "SiteLauncher" menu. This preferences window lets you choose the startup key sequence and configure all of your keyboard hotkeys. Click "Close" when you are finished with your configurations.
