Use white yarn to add a snowflake to the plastic canvas gift box.

Make a custom gift box from plastic canvas for a creative alternative to a regular cardboard gift box. You can sew the pieces of plastic canvas together with different Christmas-colored yarn and leave the remainder of the canvas empty, or make an artful gift box by adding Christmas-themed images, such as snowflakes and Christmas trees, to the empty spaces on the plastic canvas gift box. Personalize the box for the recipient by embroidering her name onto the box in place a regular gift tag.

Instructions

  1. Make the Box

    • 1

Cut five squares from the plastic canvas for the box. Make each square the same size. Cut 6-inch squares for a small box, 10-inch squares for a medium-size box or 16-inch squares for a large box.

    • 2

Lay one square on your work surface for the bottom of the box. Lay one square at each side of the bottom of the box.

    • 3

Thread the yarn onto the needle and sew between the bottom of the box and one of the squares. Repeat with each of the adjoining squares.

    • 4

Stand two of the squares upright to make sides for the box. Sew down the sides of the squares to join them together.

    • 5

Stand the remaining two squares upright and sew at each corner to join the sides together, as you did in Step 4.

    Make the Lid

    • 6

Cut a square from the plastic canvas that measures approximately 1/2-inch larger than the bottom of the box. This is the top of the lid.

    • 7

Cut four rectangles from the plastic canvas. Make each rectangle the same length as the lid by 2 inches wide.

    • 8

Lay the top of the lid on your work surface and arrange the four rectangles around it. Sew the top of the lid to the edges of the adjoining rectangles.

    • 9

Stand two of the sides up and sew down the sides. Stand the remaining sides up and sew between each adjoining side to connect all of the sides of the lid.

    • 10

Place the lid on top of the gift box.
