Access your favorite comic books with your e-reader and an online comic book library membership.

Enjoy comic books with your favorite e-reader. Regardless of the e-reader you use, with the aid of an online comic book library you can quickly and easily access your favorite comic books. A complete online library will offer all volumes or editions of those comics but may charge a membership fee. The type of membership fee will depend on the site. If you read tons of comic books, however, a one-time membership fee may actually save you money.

Instructions

  1. Comic Book Library Access

    • 1

Choose an online comic book library and create an account. Some comic book libraries offer access for a one-time fee while others have a monthly membership charge.

    • 2

Access a web browser on your e-reader device and go to the comic book library site. Log-in using your account information. If your e-reader cannot access websites directly, you may be able to download comics to your computer and then sync them to your e-reader via your usual method.

    • 3

Select comics from the comic book library. Depending on the library, you may have the option to save copies or shortcut links to your favorite comics on your e-reader or computer.

    SD Card Method

    • 4

Save the comic book files on an SD memory card. Be sure to save the comics in a file format that is compatible with your e-reader. PDF would be a good choice, since it is widely compatible with e-readers. If the comics are not available in PDF or some other file format that is compatible with your device, you will need to convert them. This may require the use of special software or an online conversion service -- refer to the comic website's support or FAQ section and the help documentation for your specific device.

    • 5

Insert the SD memory card into the memory card slot in your e-reader. If your device does not have an SD card slot, you may be able to save the files to your computer and sync your device from there using USB. For example, an iPad user can save PDFs in his iTunes account and sync them to the iPad for viewing in a PDF or e-book reader App.

    • 6

Access the comic book files from the memory card or from the device memory in a PDF or e-book App. Alternatively, email the PDF files to yourself or save them in an online document viewing site for quick access without the memory card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Nook and iPad owners, as well as other tablets, can also download some comics as Apps.

  • Many e-book readers do not support color screens and some have limited gray-scale support even in black-and-white. Some also have smaller screens which might not render a full comic page well. If possible, try a sample PDF comic on your device before paying money for comics or for a subscription service.
