How to Replace a Waxed Cord on a Bracelet
Waxed cords used in jewelry are commonly made of leather. As a result, over time they can become brittle and weak from moisture and repeated stress. Fortunately, waxed cords are commonly found at craft stores, making replacement inexpensive. Re-threading the bracelet is necessary, so set aside a little time to re-string the piece. Things You'll Need
- Small wire snips
- New waxed cord
- Jewelry crimps
- Crimp tool
- Extension rings
- Lobster claw clasp

Snip the ends off of the bracelet with the snips. Let the beads slide off the old cord, keeping them in their original order.

Cut a piece of new cord, using the length of the old cord as a guide. Crimp a new crimp at one end of the new cord.

String the beads onto the new cord, following the original pattern and design.

Crimp a second end crimp on the other end of the bracelet. Slip an extension ring onto the small hole on one of the crimp ends.

Slide a new lobster claw clasp over the extension ring. Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and clasp it in place to test fit.
