How to Make a Patchy Dress
There was a time in the fashion world where patches sewn on clothing were a direct indication of a lower social class. It basically meant that the person wearing them was poor, and probably couldn't afford new clothes. Since the fashion world is constantly evolving, patches sewn on clothing now make a fashion statement of their own. It is very easy to sew patches onto everyday shirts, pants and dresses to give them a little more flavor.

1
Wash and dry the dress, if it isn't already clean. Press the dress with a warm iron before sewing, as wrinkles in the dress may compromise the placement of the patches. Hang the dress on a hanger when finished, so you can decide where to place the patches.

2
Place the patches on the desired places on the dress. Secure them in place with stickpins. The more patches you apply, the more different the dress will look. Try to use as many as possible.

Take the dress off the hanger and place it on the ironing board. Remove the pins from a patch, then apply the fabric glue to it. Press it firmly back into place. Place a towel between the patch and the hot iron, then run the iron over it. Repeat this process until all patches are attached to the dress.

Open the package of embroidery needles. Thread the needle. Sew a patch in place around the edges. The stitching is for decorating the patches and securing the edges. Tie a double knot inside the dress to keep the stitches from coming out of the patch.

5
Add as many patches as you like.

Tips & Warnings
Patches should be four inches by four inches, but they can vary. The smaller they are, the more artsy your clothes will look.
Persons under 13 should be supervised by an adult.
