Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you will bake your own cake or present a design to a bakery. If you are commissioning a cake, take a photograph of the guest of honor and her pet dog. Submit the photo to the bakery and ask to get it printed on the surface of a cake.

    • 2

Make your own cake to save funds and add a personal, creative touch. Bake a basic square or rectangular cake and allow it to cool.

    • 3

Divide a container of white icing and into two large parts and one small part. Place the parts in three separate bowls.

    • 4

Add three drops of blue food coloring to one of the large portions of frosting and three drops of green to the other. Add two drops of brown food coloring to the small portion of frosting, or leave it white for a white.

    • 5

Blend the frosting and the food coloring until you achieve colors that are satisfactorily rich. Add more food coloring if necessary.

    • 6

Use a butter knife to spread blue frosting over half the cake and green frosting over the second half to represent grass and the sky. Place a dab of brown or white frosting in the middle of the cake.

    • 7

Use a butter knife to arrange the contrasting frosting into a circle to depict a dog's face. Add two points at the top of the head if the dog you wish to depict has erect ears. Add two ovals at the side of the head if the dog has floppy ears.

    • 8

Use the black tube of decorative frosting to add eyes to the dog's face. Draw a pink dot for the nose using a pink icing tube and draw two pink half circles beneath the nose, extending in opposite directions, to depict the dog's jowls. Add a pink or black collar beneath the dog's head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add sprinkles and candy decorations to embellish the cake. Some grocery or baking stores sell candy dog bones that you can press into the frosting.
