Grasp the end of your darker ribbon and hot glue it to the back of your straw wreath form. Thread the length of ribbon through the center of the wreath. Pull it across the front of the wreath and onto the back. Pull the ribbon taut so that it lays flat on the front. Hot glue the ribbon 2 inches to the right of the glued ribbon's end.
With autumn comes football season. Communities support their local players and express their enthusiasm with team clothing, flags and signs. You can also make a ribbon wreath to root for your favorite football team. Use the team's colors for the ribbon and hang it on your door. Your guests will be greeted with team spirit. A novice can enjoy beautiful results with this project.
Things You'll Need
- 2 lengths of ribbon in team colors
- Straw wreath form
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue
- Miniature football
- Paddle wire
Thread the ribbon through the center of the wreath again and pull it across the top, 2 inches to the right the first stripe of ribbon. Pull it onto the back and hot glue it 2-inches from the last glued ribbon. Continue this process, working clockwise, until you have gone around the entire wreath and have met the original glued end of the ribbon. Cut the ribbon and glue the end on top of the first end. Your ribbon should be form an evenly spaced, slanted pattern on the front of the wreath
Position the end of your second ribbon on top of the glued ends of your first ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the center of the wreath and across the top. Pull it taut and onto the back of the wreath. Glue it 2 inches to the left of the attached end.
Thread the ribbon through the center and onto the back. Glue the ribbon 2 inches to the left of the where you last glued the ribbon. Continue this process until you have gone around the entire wreath and have reached the original end of ribbon where you began. Cut the ribbon and glue the end on top of the first end. The front of your wreath should have an "X" design around your wreath with two colors of ribbon.
Make a florist's bow with two colors of ribbon and long streamers. Wrap paddle wire around the bow and position it at the 12 o'clock position. Twist the ends of the wire together on the back of the wreath to secure it.
Hot glue a miniature football to the center of the bow. This can be purchased at craft or party stores.
Thread wire through the back of the wreath at the top. Form a loop and twist the ends together. Hang your wreath by putting this loop over a nail.
Tips & Warnings
- Choose the length and width of ribbon based on the size of your wreath. The larger the wreath, the longer and wider your ribbon should be. Use a glitter pen to write the name of the team on the streamers.
- Handle the hot glue gun and glue sticks with caution. They get very hot and can cause burns.
